In 2003 Omega Chemicals made a decision to enter the
Chlor Alkali market. This move was based on the company's on-going
philosophy of growth in markets that complement its already existing business.
The industry's lack of competition in the supply of
Chlor Alkali products, especially Sodium Hypochlorite (bleach) and Hydrochloric
Acid was also the driving force behind Omega Chemicals' decision.
After an extensive feasibility study it was decided to
build Omega Chemicals first Chlor Alkali plant in Victoria to service primarily
the water treatment industry. A 20 acre site was secured in Laverton North
and construction began in early 2004.
The new plant was commissioned in late 2005 and today manufactures Sodium
Hypochlorite, Hydrochloric Acid and Liquid Caustic Soda. All products are
packaged in various sizes. The Laverton site includes Omega Chemicals' Customer
Service Centre.
